Having knitted another Conscious jumper for my niece using some of the yarn I bought on holiday, I decided to get cracking with a second one for LO using some more of the holiday yarn. This one also required some pattern fudging as, once again, I preferred yarn that wasn’t the right gauge for the pattern! This time I’d got aran weight, but the pattern calls for DK so I knitted the 18-24 month size to end up with a 4-6 year one.
As this one is pretty straightforward once you’ve put the stitches for the sleeves onto waste yarn, it became my out and about project for a while. This part was knitted on the sidelines at a soft play party for one of LO’s nursery friends!
And after blocking. I’m pleased with the finished result, and there is a small amount of the body colour leftover in case I want to lengthen it as LO grows. LO chose two sparkly pink buttons for the shoulder.
The project used up 447.8 metres of yarn in total. Whilst I love this pattern, I’ve decided I really didn’t like the yarn, Billie Jean by Wool and the Gang. It’s made from recycled denim (100% cotton) and is awful to knit with. A lot of the dye transfers onto your fingers when you’re knitting – even from the variegated colourway. It does wash off, but it’s a bit of a pain. It also incredibly splitty to knit with and untwists at the slightest excuse, and I encountered a couple of knots too. Don’t think I’ll be using this one again!
Are there any yarns you haven’t enjoyed knitting?
